Experience the magic of an ancient art form! Encaustic was used over 2500 years ago to adorn Greek ships and paint the famous Fayum portraits of Egyptian mummies. It is composed of beeswax, tree resin and pigment and applied hot to create a luminous surface. Explore brushing, scraping, layering and pouring wax paint and see how it can be combined with photography and collage. You will fall in love with the sensuous textures, lustrous depth and smell of beeswax!
For both beginners and experienced artists; students with previous experience will be started on a project while beginners willl spend the first hour learning the basics.
Topics may include: painting with stencils, using translucent layering, transfer techniques, creating extreme dimensionality, new tools and materials, design guidance and gentle critiques to get your art to the next level.
