Encaustics Workshops 1 & 2

Workshop 1: Introduction to Encaustic Painting
10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Class Fee: $60 all materials provided
Description: Experience the magic of an ancient art form! Encaustic was used over 2500 years ago to adorn Greek ships and paint the famous Fayum portraits of Egyptian mummies. It is composed of beeswax, tree resin and pigment and applied hot to create a luminous surface. Explore brushing, scraping, layering and pouring wax paint and see how it can be combined with photography and collage. You will fall in love with the sensuous textures, lustrous depth and smell of beeswax!
Participants will be able to finish 2 small paintings.
